2025 Season Blog #1

May 4th, Golden, CO

We waited patiently all winter long. I spent weeks researching and planning fabulous camping trips for this spring, summer and fall. Today is finally THE day. It’s Rhoda time!

A few weeks ago, we moved her from a dusty storage lot about a half hour from our house to a new spot just a few minutes away. This morning, we drove to Rhoda’s new home, hitched her up and towed her to a creekside campsite at the Clear Creek RV Park in nearby Golden.

We love this little park It’s about 20 miles from home, in the foothills of the Rockies, just below Table Mountain, which is actually a 6,555 foot mesa.

Also above us is Mount Zion, which features an enormous white letter M, maintained by students at Golden’s Colorado School of Mines. Freshmen attending the school, climb the 7,062 foot high mountain. Each adds a rock to the M, which they can take with them when they graduate. The M has been illuminated since 1932 and is a cherished landmark for people traveling west from Denver into the mountains.

Some of the campsites at the RV Park back onto the Clear Creek, a popular spot for inner tubing. In the spring, the Creek is runs fast and high, thanks to melted snow flowing down from the Rockies just to the west. No matter how cold the temps are in Golden, we keep Rhoda’s windows open to listen to the sound of the water rushing past our campsite.

We came to Golden today with a purpose; to make sure Rhoda is ready for our biggest adventure yet. On May 16th, we leave for a 6 week trip to the Pacific Northwest. Our plan is to travel north to Wyoming before turning west to Utah, Nevada and California. After visiting 3 National Parks, we’ll head north to the spectacularly beautiful coasts of Oregon and Washington. Rhoda will take to the water for the first time when we load her onto a ferry to get to North Cascades National Park. After a few days, we’ll turn south and travel to Mount Rainier and the Columbia River Gorge. After a detour to Mount Hood, to see where our son Alex went to summer ski racing camp, we’ll follow the footsteps of Lewis & Clark to Baker City, Oregon. Then we head home via Idaho and Utah. It’s going to be an absolutely incredible adventure.

I’m happy to report that after spending the day checking her out, Rhoda is ready for the journey that lies ahead. Jamie and I have a few things left to do in the next 12 days before we can leave. We hope you’ll join us on the Rhoda…to the Pacific Northwest.
