Sunday May 18th
It was raining early this morning when we left Coalville, UT for the six+ hour drive to Winnemucca, NV. We planned to stay there tonight before the winds in Wyoming closed the Interstate and messed up our itinerary. We try to be pretty relaxed and flexible On The Rhoda but for this trip we had to reserve most of our campsites well in advance and didn't want to lose them. So we were bound and determined to get to Winnemucca today to get back on schedule.
As left the campground this morning, the light rain turned into a deluge. The highway looked more like a river than a road. As we approached Salt Lake City, the fog hid the glorious Wasatch Mountains. Miraculously the rain slowed for a brief moment so I could snap a quick photo of the Great Salt Lake. But it picked up again making the drive absolutely miserable.

Just as we approached the Nevada border the rain slowed and finally stopped. Our relief was short-lived. As we've learned, nature abhors a vacuum.

So the awful rain was replaced by really scary crosswinds. For hours Jamie wrestled with the steering wheel, struggling to keep us in our lane as huge trucks roared past us. Most seemed to be going faster than Nevada's crazy 80 mph speed limit. My dear husband proved worthy of his middle name... which is Driver. By the way, he's much handsomer than the photo on his license.
Tomorrow we're off to Mill Creek, CA and Lassen Volcano National Park where the fun part of our trip will hopefully begin . Good night and sweet dreams from our crew...On The Rhoda
Safe travels every day! Your DL photo is better than mine, Jamie!
Keep fucking going!!!
I’m so sorry! I’m headed in the opposite direction and weather was windy but manageable. Larry said 874 flights delayed and 13 cancelled at DIA today. Safe travels.
