Too Many People Not Enough Moose

Sometimes you just need to get away. We love where we live but in the late spring our neighborhood fills up with snowbirds coming back to summer in Colorado. The sudden increase of people, vehicles and commotion on our little street can feel overwhelming to me. So we hitched up Rhoda and headed for one of our favorite places. Winding River Resort.

There's a lot to love. First, Winding River is next to Rocky Mountain National Park, one of our country's most beautiful places.

Whenever we go to Winding River we see amazing wildlife. Last spring, 5 moose walked by our campsite. including this guy.

Last fall we saw a bald eagle perched in a nearby tree

And best of all for me, Winding River has lots of wonderful horses. The stable is right in the middle of the property so you can love on horses all day long. Our trips to Winding River usually include a trail ride.

This trip to Winding River was different. It was our first during the high tourist season. Instead of our usual wooded campsite, we ended up in the middle of a crowded field. There were hordes of children whizzing around on bicycles, tons of campers coming and going at all hours and the horses were all booked up. We did relax and enjoy. But what made this trip truly special was this:

A moose and her newborn calf barely visible in the tall grass

It was an extraordinary sight that I will always cherish. Unforgettable experiences like these are why we love our life on The Rhoda!
