Wyoming Blows…Me Away

We woke up to a beautiful day. Anxious to leave Little America and Eastern Wyoming, we packed up Rhoda, unplugged our hookups, filled the truck with gas and set the GPS for Grand Teton National Park. Our trip took us via back roads. No interstates, tractor trailers, snowstorms or high winds for us today. The ugly plains, mining operations and refineries gave way to forests, rivers and snow capped mountains. Wyoming was looking good…very good indeed.

Our route took us from Wyoming to Idaho back into Wyoming, into Idaho, back to Wyoming and finally to Tetonia, Idaho where we were booked into the Teton Peaks Resort for the night. Cousin Marjie had a room in the lodge. We parked Rhoda nearby, set her up, settled the dogs inside and headed out to Grand Teton National Park.

We crossed back into Wyoming near Jackson and were completely gobsmacked by the scenery. I think it was the most beautiful place I have ever seen, including Switzerland and our home state of Colorado…and we were in WYOMING!!! WTF? How could my least favorite state include this gorgeous place?

The answer may be that the federal government owns nearly half of Wyoming’s land, including Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, several national forests, two national recreational areas and wildlife refuges. Yup, we all are the owners and stewards of this spectacular land, How lucky are we Americans to have had leaders who acquired these unique places so they could be enjoyed, protected and preserved for us all, hopefully forever,

We’ll be off to Yellowstone tomorrow on the Rhoda humming Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land…”

If you have time (or the desire) get out to Jackson and Jenny Lakes. I've been up there a million times because my mom and brother used to live there. It certainly IS gorgeous, and you're pretty much guaranteed to see some impressive wildlife... And come on, Texas and Florida are far worse, dont ya think?😉😘
